- Host country China wins 68% more medals
- 30% of organic and biodynamic entries won an award
The results of the 2018 Concours Mondial de Bruxelles (CMB) are out. The international judging panel awarded silver, gold and grand gold medals to wines from around the globe. The top ten countries to have won a medal this year are France, Spain, Italy, Portugal, China, Chile, South Africa, Greece, Switzerland and Bulgaria.
Last year China was 6th on the CMB medal list, moving up to 5th this year. The 2018 host country posted an increase of 68% in medals, winning a total 131 (5 Grand Gold, 46 Gold, and 80 Silver) compared to 78 medals in 2017 (4 Grand Gold, 33 Gold and 41 Silver). The award-winning wines were produced in the regions of Ningxia, Xinjiang, Hebei, Shandong, and Beijing. The most awarded Chinese wines were made from international varietals: Cabernet-Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay and Marselan. The Revelation award for the Best Chinese wine in 2018 went to a Marselan wine from Xinjiang. Read more…
